I'd recommend following your doctor's advice. Corticosteroids like entocort or prednisone will help you feel better fast. Although I'm confused by the duration. A typical corticosteroid course is 2 months from start to finish. I don't believe a week or even twos weeks time will produce much, if any, of a lasting affect.
Many of us have been on xeljanz without any side effects. A number of us with great success. While scary side effects can occur, the incidence of the most scary ones are rare category, less than 1 percent of patients experience them.
Prednisone is known for temporary side effects as an FYI. Feel great but at the cost of side effects, colloquially called the devil's tic tacs for a reason. Generally worth it if you're miserable in a flare.
Budesonide and cortiment generally don't have any side effects, or at least have very minimal and mild ones.
There's insufficient scientific evidence to prove slippery elm heals UC inflammation. It's likely placebo affect at most. I wouldn't waste your time on it.
