The times I went to the hospital I was running to the toilet 20+ times a day, and was very weak. I was put on IV steroids and sent home on high dose pred with a long taper, followed by a change in meds. The 1st time was when I was first diagnosed and I was hospitalized for a week. 2nd time was because I hospitalized for 3 days just to get IV steroids. 3rd time I was in for 24 hours and had to get blood and iron transfusions. I hope never to get that sick again.
Are you using rectal meds? If not, you might want to get some. The constipation is likely due to inflammation. Even with pancolitis rectal meds can help treat inflammation in the rectum and that's where the inflammation can cause some of the most annoying symptoms of frequency and urgency.
If you get to feeling too bad and unable to function you may need to go if your doc can't get you something to give you some relief. The hospital will run lots of tests and give you IV steroids. Unless your labs are bad, they most likely will give you a short acting (like 2 days) IV steroid, tell you to contact your doc and send you home.
