First cat scan done......ALL CLEAR!! It also showed a little acid reflux which I already knew and a "trace" of fluid on the heart or lung (I have to go back to report to look) which I looked up and is normal but I'll wait for when I go to my doctor.

I go to my oncologist in a couple of weeks.

This one was done without contrast. I want to ask my doctor about doing a pet scan the next time. I think a pet scan is more precise. OR a cat scan with contrast.

A little more info on the 9/11 Victims Compensation fund......

a few people at my job retained a law firm and gave me the info. I contacted them and they are starting my case. What happens when all is said and done is you get free medical coverage for the rest of your life, which includes doctor visits, medications, test, etc. On top of that you get a compensated. Compensation starts at $250,000 and goes up from there.

I'm going to my lung doctor tomorrow so I'll update after the visit. Next week I go to my Oncologist and I also have a phone call with my lung surgeon.

Just got back from my lung doctor. He said the cat scan was fine, lungs are good. He said the "trace" fluid by the heart is not anything to be concerned about but if I wanted to, I could make an appointment with a cardiologist, which I did for the end of December. My lung doctor said I should see him again the end of March.

I go to my oncologist on Wednesday.

My surgeon called yesterday. No cancer at all! He was pleased. He did say the cat scan picked up on "moderate Hiatal hernia". He ordered a test to see further. He asked me if I get acid reflux. I did right after my lung surgery for awhile but I've been taking over the counter meds which help a lot. He said it's not urgent and to keep taking the meds as long as they help. My cousin has the same thing for a long time and she takes meds. From what I researched on this, if meds are helping then surgery is not needed.

He also said the "trace liquid" around heart is normal and not to worry at all but I'm still going to a cardio doctor the end of December. He said my lung doctor worries too much. LOL I love my surgeon but I don't like my lung doctor. I stay with my lung doctor because he's an excellent doctor but he can get arrogant at times.

My oncologist is today!!

Perfect report once again! Arrogance within an excellent and worries too much doctor is definitely tolerable. And I agree with the cardiologist appt for reassurance.

How often will scans be after this?

The scans will be every 6 months for a couple of years.

My Oncologist told me that trace fluid around heart is normal and told me not to worry at all but I'm still going to a Cardio doctor. I also scheduled a cat scan in January to get a closer look at this haital hernia. If my meds keep it under control I will not be having any surgery. My oncologist also wrote a note for my job telling them I can commute once a week, and the rest of the week work from home for the next 6 months. I do like my job but the commute is not good because there are too many lunatics walking around Manhattan and I don't want to deal with that.

I'm shocked that my UC is still in remission after all this stuff going on.

Hiatal hernia used to be a big DX deal 30 or more years ago, but is no longer considered to be majorly abnormal as people get into midlife and older. Read up about it on reliable Websites like Mayo and Cleveland Clinics Online. We need to beware of too many scans delivering higher-dose radiation than basic x-rays. Repeat exposure to unnecessary medical radiation can also induce additional unwanted problems over time. A reliable dermatologist has mentioned that to me, also a middled-aged woman who initially was subjected to annual gyn scans, though symptom-free, because her sister suddenly developed an aggressive ovarian cancer. A different gyn then warned her about over-exposure to scan-level radiation in the absence of concerning symptoms. / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

Old Hat: Thanks for the info re: Mayo Clinic. That's where I go to read up on things.

As far as my acid reflux goes, I'm going for a test January 8th. As long as I can be comfortable with the meds I'm taking, that's what I will continue to do. And I do not get reflux every day. My lung surgeon talked about surgery but I told him I'm still healing from my lung surgery and as long as the meds help my reflux, I will not be doing any surgery.
