RSV vaccine for seniors

I'm wondering whether any forum members have taken the RSV shot. What's available so far in U.S. : Arexvy, made by GSK, and Abrysvo by Pfizer. (Supposedly, Moderna is working on an mRNA version.) The medical experts say that RSV can be especially bad for seniors' lower respiratory tract, though it most commonly hits babies and toddlers. I never heard of this virus 'til last year, and Medicare is recommending and covering the vaccine at present. / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

I'm like you - never heard of it until I started seeing commercials about the vaccine. I asked my doc about it and he said it's a real disease and can be serious for seniors. I got the vax when I got my flu shot. I don't know which one I got though.

I meant to get the vaccine last year but didn’t. I keep putting it off

Did you have a reaction CC? They say it’s a one time only vaccine so that’s good. I think I will go get it.

Initially I was told it was a one-time vaccine, so I got it last year. I don't remember any significant reactions. Now I'm told it's something we need every 2 years. I guess when we know more we adjust our vaccines and our schedules.

I haven't considered it at this point. I get my vaccines spread out, so I'll should discuss it with my doctor when she gets back from maternity leave in January or February.

I only get the flu vaccine. That's it for me!

Thankfully I got a shot of Abrysvo last Wednesday without any problem but my laptop crashing due to a new software update! (Boohoo!) For the 1st time post-vaccination into upper arm, I decided to dab some Icy Hot lotion onto skin above the pharmacist's bandaid pad and also into the underside of that arm-- about an hour after receiving the injection. Happy to write that I was then spared the usual post-site soreness that takes a couple days to wear off! Like Lynnwood mentioning above, I also found more recent news speculating that RSV vaccine administration could be changed to require additional dosing in the future. / Old Hat
