I,m updating my condition .I,m into the 3rd week of 4 weeks of pred.I seem to be pretty much asymptomatic and wondering whether i should start mesalamine enemas during the last week of pred or wait till I,m all finished.?
Maybe someone that has done this can give me an opinion.thanks Steve

Curious what dosage and tapering schedule you're on? Getting on mesalamine oral/rectal will have it start treating before you're going through the possible yo-yo tapering process at lower dosages. Plus, you're not in full blown flare symptoms at this point.

Hi Steve -- you should be on both oral and rectal meds now, as Quincy advised. Pred is just a bandaid to get you functional while your maintenance meds have a chance to start working. You should be on the mesalamine now at the same time as pred. By not doing that, you run a risk of symptoms coming back as soon as pred is out of your system before the maintenance meds start working.

You mentioned enemas. Did the doc also prescribe oral meds? If you have inflammation past your rectum, you also need oral med since the enemas will only treat the rectum and sigmoid. Ask your doc.
