Knee replacement surgery and UC...

My orthopedic surgeon said NO knee replacement surgery while I am bleeding from UC.

Has anyone here ever had such elective surgery - knee replacement, hip, etc. with UC.  I have been treating UC with Canasa for 31 days - not a lot of help.  Seeing NP on Wednesday and want to find out if others here have had surgery and what the criteria would be for surgery - remission??

I need the knee surgery but do not want to risk my life with bleeding (which I have daily), etc and having to take Cumadin for a while.

I have been to two OS and they both give Cumadin or other blood thinner for a time after surgery to prevent blood clots along with the TED stockings, etc.  I have to talk to my surgeon and find out more.  I expect the two doctors will consult each other.  Just wondering who else may have had this surgery - all knee and hip replacement, etc. is elective.  We don't have to have it so they seem more careful about whom they do - especially, maybe, Medicare patients.  Elaine
