Successful round of antibiotics.

I have frequented these forums for years now, and there is one thing that most of you would agree with...and that is that antibiotics make flares worse or bring them on after remission. Well I've been battling a flare since Feb. of this year going on and off of Pred twice. Well I had a root canal about a month ago. The abcess got worse after the procedure, so the dentist put me on amox. an antibiotic. Ever since this treatment I've been blood-free. My bowels are actually normal now. One a day and formed. No cramps or urgency. I'm back to normal and I'm only on Aza. My question is if the antibiotics helped me or if I was just ready to go into remission?

Antibiotics have no effect on my UC either way, but I haven't taken many kinds..there's always the chance, however.

Regarding your situation, one wouldn't know for sure if you had something else going on in your colon that helped keep your UC active unless you had stool samples done before you took them and after you improved.

I'm happy to hear you're doing better.....

Please remember that as soon as you start to feel any rectal discomfort or have any increase of some symptoms that are continual but not "obvious" in the familiar diarrhea/bleeding stuff...to start the rectal meds.

You might even benefit to be using them as maintenance rather than only being on the Aza......
