Hi, has anyone here been diagnosed with axial arthritis, or ankylosing spondylitis, as a result of their UC? Can't find much via search.

Cammy, we do have some members with this diagnosis; hopefully one of them will stop in. I've been lucky enough not to have this diagnosis - at least, thus far.

I take it the Aza is working for you? I remember what a tough time you had getting into remission, and I wondered how you were doing.

Hi Judy and thank you, the UC is totally under control and has been for a good few months. Unfortunately I've been diagnosed with arthritis related to the UC, but they're not sure which kind. It's driving me daft. I'm very worried what the future holds and whether I will be able to continue my work.
Thought I had got lucky when the UC started to respond!

I've been on sulfasalazine for about 2 months in the hope that would help the arthritis, but nothing so far. I have it bad in both shoulders, and my lower back has now started to get very bad now.
From my research, I think it seems to be increasingly likely to be axial arthritis or AS. confused

How are you?

I also have arthritis and I don't know which one either. I do know that I have osteoarthritis in the middle finger of my right hand but the joint pain is progressing. I have seen a rheumy already but none of my blood markers indicate any arthritic cause so I am in still in the what is it category! But the sooner the docs can find out which one it is for you, the likelihood of them stopping or slowing the progression will be better.
