Ahhh!!  I have a colonoscopy tomorrow at 1:00, and I can't keep any of this Golytely down...it just comes right back up.  This is my third scope, so my stomach should be used to this stuff by now..

What should I do??! I don't want to be sent home tomorrow b/c I'm not cleaned out.

I haven't had solid food since Sunday in an attempt to make this prep process more tolerable.  (I figured the less I ate in advance the less I would have to drink).  So how much bowel could I possible still have in me??

HELP!

Could you call your GI or the GI on call or a pharmacist and ask what they suggest?

I can never get past the 6th glass of that stuff. It starts coming back up at that time so I just quit and they never said anything to me after the scopes.

Definitely call your GI or his/her office and try to speak to someone. When I couldn't keep down the regular c-scope prep, my GI had me do the Miralax.

Let us know how the scope goes.

That stuff is awful.

Do you have to take the mag citrate after that too?

ugh no just the gallon. I left a message for my GI but she hasn't called back. I could handle only 3 small glasses...it came right back up. Im calling it a night and hoping that Ill be fine for tomorrow

I got about half of it down before it started coming back up, but I also had to drink the mag citrate after all of that which was surprisingly good! Its very bubbly and it will make you go!

Well, the GI never called back last night, and no one answered at the office today when I called 5 times. So, I went to CVS and got a Fleet Enema as a last resort before I left.

I wasn't all the way cleaned out, but he said my colon looked fine but had hemroids. Let me add that out of 3 scopes already, this one was the worst!! It hurt terribly, I was awake the whole time, and I cried for them to stop multiple times and they didn't. The doctor didn't have much time to talk to me, and he still didn't care that I am in intense pain. I have been in horrible pain, in my rectum, constantly since Christmas EVe! I am so disgusted!!

Furthermore, my mother is just not sympathetic. I sat in the recovery room crying in pain and she told me to suck it up, and if I couldn't handle that then I should never have kids. She has never had a scope done and she's 58! She has no idea what it's like.

Well, sorry for ranting but I am so fed up with the whole ordeal. I don't understand where the hemroids came from, why I was diagnosed with uc in Sept and now I supposedly don't have it, and why they won't give me anything for the pain!! I have to wait until Feb. for an office visit!

ok maybe this is a stupid question but are people usually awake during this? I've only had two and been asleep both times.

Gosh, the only appropriate response I can think of would be to turn to your mother and very calmly and seriously say "Okay, mom, I won't. You will never have grandchildren."

And it sounds like you might want to consider a different GI. Some people do choose to be awake for scopes, but most don't. The doctor should either respect your wishes or tell you up front he won't give you enough medication to make you unaware of the procedure.

So sorry you had to go through that while awake... That is totally unacceptable- I would definitely see another GI and get your own copies of all of the test results.

Ok I guess it is typical to be asleep. The more and more I read these message boards since joining last month, the more I read about insensitive doctors. Don't tolerate it and find a new one. There are better doctors out there and I feel fortunate that I found a good one the first time by random luck.

As for your mother, you can't go shop for a new one. Not implying you want to overall, but I bet you felt like it at the moment!

O, I've felt like shopping for a new one for a few months now! No one else in my family has GI issues but me, so they don't understand at all :( It's tough.

My mom had one flare 20 years ago and isn't on meds, so effectively can't relate to me who flares every 3-4 months. No one else in my family has GI issues either. UC is a taboo subject in my house. Not anything mean which it sounds like you may deal with, just quick change of subject whenever I happen to bring it up.

Sounds like maybe you should get a new GI and that our moms should get together they might get along great!
