Prednisone Taper

I am being put on a short (one week) bout of Prednisone for an eye problem. The doctor put me on 20mg tablets - 3 per day for a week with no taper.

I questioned him about this because I thought that it was very important to taper off Pred, but he said that it wasn't necessary if given for a short period of time.

Has anyone ever heard of this?

Hmm... At 60mg, I would think you would have to taper but maybe a week isn't enough to cause a problem. Maybe try calling your GI and see if they have any opinion on the matter, if you're not comfortable?

Thanks. I took your advice and called my GI's office. He said that it is okay to go off Prednisone without tapering if you are on it for a short period of time.
