Horrible smellling gas and bloated since colonoscopy

I had a colonoscopy 1 year ago...I had just turned 50 and recommended by my physician. Since then I have gas all the time...Horrible smelling gas.

My colonoscopy was fine. Of course I'm always gassby and bloated.  What should I do?

hi...did you get a copy of all the biopsies?

What are your stools like? have you been checked for celiac disease? that wouldn't show up in the colon...

did the doc take stool samples?

You should get an appointment with a GI.

Are you using artificial sweeteners of any kind? do you drink a lot of soda?

Do you consider yourself to have a balanced diet?

Can you connect your symptoms to any foods?

You might want to also go to the IBS forum and post a question there. Many with IBS suffer the same symptoms, as do we with UC or both.

Thank you for the quick reply Quincy..No I don't get any reports. When I woke up the doctor told me everything looked gogd and I was on my way.

I doubt she took stool samples...I was pretty cleaned out by the time they put me under.. I've got the gas all the time and it's embarrising. I work in a temp controled room where if we drop anything we have a floor person to clean up after us and I'm always on the lookout for him for fear he will be behind me when I . rolleyes well you know...and I 'm serious they are skull

Meggan do you have any sort of digestive disorder or did you just have the colonoscopy to rule things out? Your gas could just simply be from your bacteria trying to reestablish itself. The colon prep washes everything out including good bacteria. Take a probiotic for a while and see if that helps. Try not to eat any foods that may also create more gas until things return to normal.

I have a lot of gas too. I thought mine was bad but my dog's is so much worse - it puts things in perspective.

Sometimes I get filled with air, and it doesn't smell at all when I let it out. Other times I get filled with gas, which does smell. Whether or not I have smelly gas and how bad the smelly gas gets depends on what I ate. Anything containing sweeteners such as Sorbitol gives me extremely smelly gas. Chocolate, foods containing high fructose corn syrup, and baked beans give me smelly gas. Milk and cheese give me gas which doesn't have much smell to it. I don't like carbonated beverages; so I don't know about these. Anything else is just air. I tend to fill up with air when I'm flaring.

Maybe Probiotics would help. I haven't been getting much gas since taking Probiotics. It takes awhile for Probiotics to build up in your system though.

Also, keep a food diary. You might find that some foods give you more gas than others and some foods might give you really smelly gas.
