I just need to vent. I have been waiting on pre approval for humira for a week, and this morning of course it was denied for being investigative and experimental. i have colitis and horrible arthritis, so this was the best route after trying other possibilities. All blood work has been done, and there is very high levels of inflammation in my body, plus the arthritis makes it unbearable to walk at times, button up shirts etc.... It kills me that a company in which i pay into can deny me when I need it most. I can't believe this is allowed to take place. So as we wait for appeal, i will continue the large amounts of advil(i know im not suppose to take, but its the only thing that makes it bearable). Any advice? I;m so ticked right now

I was denied Humira also,the F.D.A only approves Humira for Crohns.I'm on 6mp now[15 weeks]and it's very slow to work[3-6 months].There are other meds that can help colitis,Asacol,Rowasa,etc.GOOD LUCK

Have your doctor write the Rx for use for arthritis instead of UC.

Try getting yourself a patient advocate. Go to patientadvocate.org. They can help deal with your insurance company and help you get approved, there IS a way.

yeah the humira is for the arthritis, not the colitis. i am already on lialda and rowasa for that.....the insurance company says that humira for arthritis is experimental!!! hahah! insane

My Dr. didn't have any trouble getting it for me for arthritis. Perhaps the problem was in how the script was written? Sometimes the issue is in the documentation. I think Humira is approved for RA perhaps that may be the issue.
