Daughter admitted after colonoscopy showed hideous flare of her UC. Came home yesterday and now she's right back to being terrible. While on the i.v. prednisone she was a new child! Here at home she's taking oral prednisone but her stools are straight blood again. Why is this happening?

I don't think it's as simple as stopping the fish oil. How much prednisone is she taking? Have you called her doctor?

Sometimes I.V. steroids are effective when oral is not. Looks like a couple of days of I.V. steroids were not enough. Is she throwing up? Perhaps she is throwing up her prednisone. That happened to me when I was really sick.

How many days did she stay in the hospital?  Is it possible they released her too soon?  So sorry to hear about your daughter. Our daughter just recently spent 2 weeks at the hospital and it was absolute torture.  It's very hard on parents to see their children suffer.

Is she weak?  Our daughter had to have potassium runs and iron infusion to build her strength back up. How many mgs of prednisone is she on ?  Possibly steroid suppositories might help the bleeding.  Definately call her doctor.  You don't want her to take anymore steps backwards.

I am in the hospital right now and that exact thing happened to me. I went to the ER twice and was put on iv steroids. Both times I went home after a day and took the oral Prednisone again only to get really sick by the next day. I was losing so much fluid I couldn't stay hydrated. Sounds like she may have been released too soon and should perhaps be on the iv steroids a little longer to see if they help control the flare. From what I have heard, the iv steroids are absorbed into the body better than the oral Prednisone, especially during a bad flare when everything is rushing through.
