Hiya, I know how you feel, it’s sometimes so hard to get this horrible disease under control, but you will get there ! Have you had UC for long?
Do you see a GI in one of the hospitals?
I am also in Dublin and attend the GI unit in the mater hospital. Dr Leyden and his team are quite brilliant (especially as you can get in touch with the IBD coordinator who will do her utmost to help you.)
I have had UC for a long time, at least for 17 years. I am currently on 50mg 6mp, which is like imuran and sulfazine 800mg a day. I flared up pretty badly when our little boy was born and it took me the best part of the day to get it under control. I was on 4 courses of steroids until the 6mp started working, imuran caused too many side effects, like nausea, headache and other complaints so we moved to 6mp. Maybe Imuran doesn’t agree with you either?
The medication I am on now seems to be working pretty well now, I am finally in remission and enjoying life again. Our little boy is 19 months old now and I have to admit, it was a hard year, but we got there. We’re hoping to start planning for another child sometime this year, but after last year I am not sure if I can handle the potential flare up again…
I think having a child is a big change in life, which makes it harder to get your UC under control, but you will get there !
Please pm if you need to chat more or need any more info regarding hospitals etc.
