My son may have ulcerative colitis please help

My son who is 17 has been sick for almost 3 months with diarrhea(not usually liquid), weight loss, near constant stomach discomfort(he said it feels like he is going to have diarrhea) and occasional constipation. He has also has off and on fatique. All his bloodwork is normal, his stools show pus. Most importantly his colonoscopy showed one precancerous polyp and signs of colitis. A friend of mine who is a physician said it most likely is ulcerative colitis. He does not have any blood in his stool or vomiting. I was hoping you all could weigh in with your thoughts/experiences. This is so hard to watch as a parent. I keep telling him I can't find my magic mommy wand.

Try to find a good GI.  Has someone called to interpret the colonoscopy?  If it is UC, then they need to put him on some medication.  When I was diagnosed, I thought my bleeding was caused by hemmies, but too bad, it was UC.  He gave me my prescription right then and there after my colonoscopy for Asacol and some rectal medications. 

Good luck and let us know how he is doing.  I don't remember if I had mucus first.  I remember always having to run to the bathroom and having lots of D, cramping, blood and mucus.

One more thing, I just put in a call to his primary and requested a referral to Dartmouth in NH as our insurance covers it 100% and they have a great team approach to medical care.

That's good you are going to Dartmouth. On a psoitive note my biopsies always came back saying uc, so maybe something else is going on. There are different kinds of colitis. Maybe it's not uc??? That would be good.
