Help! Teen with Pancolitis 3rd flare 10 months

Hi, I am sorry your daughter is having so many problems. I have been on quite a few medications at the same time, not quite the same combination as your daughter but 6mp, allopurinol, prednisone, rectal meds, and Asacol all at once. I don't think anyone can say what the potential side effects may be but I do believe the chances of having major side effects are quite low with the majority of these medications (that is what I've been lead to believe). The ones that worry me the most are the newest ones because they don't have really long-term data on safety but what they have shows much more risks for young men than women and the risks are generally low overall. I still feel nervous about taking these medications. If they work for you, they can work wonders. The problem with biologics that I've seen from posting here is that they will work for a period of time and then people stop responding to them. This can happen in a month or never. I am not sure why some people have more luck treating with these medications than others.

If her blood counts are strong, she probably won't have too many problems with contracting illness. My problem is that I've always been on the lower end of normal so when I take these medications, I drop into the unsafe category. Very frustrating. Has she had high counts? If you have high counts and you take immunosupressents, it can put you into the normal range.

I hope Apriso helps. I think it is possible that it may give her the push she needs to get over the hump. I haven't seen too many people taking methotrexate for UC... A lot of people seem to combine Remicde/Humira with 6mp/Imuran. Has the GI mentioned trying Humira? Have you looked into any alternative treatments? A few people are using LDN with success. Has she been using rectal meds at all?

Yes, the doctor mentioned they are trying  to avoid surgery if possible.

Her quality of life has been afffected greatly this past year, as I see everyone here on the forum goes through also.

Alternative treatments are not encouraged at all, just dismissed . That's OK, I will continue to research and read with all the breath I have for my girl.

Blood counts and liver function tests are normal range.

The mixture of the Prednisone(seems to be helping-her insomnia stinks) with the Remicade and Methotrexate and now Apriso! The GI said he goes Remicade and Methotrexate, while some other GI docs go Remi and Humira.

Thankfully, this morning she was able to go to school. We are encouraging her to move her food selection slowly, as she is still recovering from the flare.
