i posted about a couple of weeks ago cause i had just given birth and was in a really bad flare up. in the last couple of weeks i did one week on 45mg of prednisone and now im just finishing 1 week at 40mg. the last couple of days i actually started feeling alot better. im still seeing a bit of blood blood but he urgency has gone way down im maybe down to about 4 bm a day and they are actually formed. i went back to see the GI that took care of me at the hospital today cause my real GI is on mat leave. i told her im starting to feel better and she says that when my pred goes down she thinks im going to have another flare up. she says to protect me shes going to start me up on Humira. i dont know anything about this drug. has anyone ever had any weird side effects with this drug??

I'm on my 4th week of Humira. Feeling a lot better. Not in remission. Hopefully soon I hope. Did the loading doses at the GI's office. Today was my first one by myself. No problem at all. Slight headache today. Gone now. Otherwise fine. Maybe others have been on longer can help. Good luck!

I haven't heard of too many people having weird side effects from Humira. It's very similar to Remicade but easier to administer since you can buy prefilled syringes and use them in the comfort of your own home. It's great to hear that you're feeling better. Do you know why she wants to go with Humira over Remicade? Here in the US, at this time, Remicade is approved for UC and Humira is still in trials. Humira is approved for Crohn's and should have approval for UC very soon but I believe the success rate with Remicade is higher according to the results of trials.

i dont know why they decided to put me on humira instead of remicade. the humira that i got today comes in a pill form and not in a syringe. when i was in the hospital a couple of weeks ago they did test a few things to see if i could take remicade but the iv steroids started working so they let me go home with a prescription of prednisone. i sort of find it harsh to jump into all these meds. this is the first time i have a big flare up since ive been diagnosed in 2007. i had a a bad flare up last year around the same time and prednisone did the trick and i didnt have a flare up after till right after i gave birth. i guess maybe the GI wants to take precautions since i have a newborn to take care of.

That's so interesting. i've never heard of a Humira pill but I wouldn't be surpried if newer medications are available to you since you're in Canada. It takes forever for us to get anything approved here. I hope you get into a forever remission so you can spend time with your baby. *hugs*

     News to me too.  I did the Humira injections at home for three months.  They didn't help me though.  I was on Remicade prior to Humira and built up antibodies to it real fast, after my 3rd infusion sad .  My GI's nurse felt that it was a waste to start Humira if Remicade failed because, apparently, Remicade is the Big Momma of the biologics.  I had surgery in 2010.  Hopefully, the drug will work for you, since we are all different with this disease.

I don't think you are getting Humira if it is in pill form. Since it's a biological substance, it has to be administered through the skin. In pill form, the digestive system would destroy it before it could start working.

hmmmm maybe i am getting mixed up with the name. all i know is that its a imunosupressant and they have to take blood test before giving me the meds and the GI also told me that in the first month i take the meds they have to do blood work once a week for 4 weeks then its goes down to once a month.

I went through everything you went through with 6mp. I think it's a similar process for Imuran. They are both immunosupressants.

i just did a search online on the name of the med and it is imuran and not humira.
