Serological markers predict inflammatory bowel disease years before the diagnosis

Does that mean/confirm the theory that uc starts as a defect in the mucosal barrier or a leaky guy hence the exposure of the immune system to these antigens and the subsequebt development of these antibodies?
I think this sounds quite likely!
The question is: what the heck is causing this mucosal barrier defect and how can we fix it???

The mucosal barrier defect theory also explains why uc starts in the rectosigmoid area: because thats where there is alot of mechanical friction as the stool passes out of the body and hence where we are most likely to see our mucous barrier strength tested.
