I just wanted to see what types of probiotics
people use for their UC. What do you believe is the strongest strain? I have
tried VSL#3 and had a very bad experience with that, with a lot of vomiting.
Currently I'm taking a lactobicillus plantarum strain capsules
"called Probex" (5x day each capsule contains 20 billion organisms ), and
there have been some studies to show that this strain helps with inflammation
in the gut and rectum. I also take a general probiotic which contains
lactobicillus acidophilus, bifodobacterium lactis, lactobicillus rhamnosus. I'm
currently tapering steroids (7.5mg) and the pain, gas and liquid blood has
started once again..oh joy...
I think a stronger probiotic could really help. I
was reading an article written by the founder of the GAPS diet, she is a doctor
and was talking about her how in the beginning they had tried a probiotic for
their son (who had autism- and who the diet was made for and has healed) and
she mentioned that later they had found a very strong probiotic that had helped
a lot (she didn't mention what though).
I wanted to also add this because I was in a
microbiology lecture and the lecturer said something very interesting, he said
that we don't know the precise composition of our gut flora, that the flora is
different in different people from different countries, different genders,
different ages and that research needs to be aimed at finding the exact composition
needed to restore gut flora. This fitted in with a video of bacterial fecal
therapy where a woman with c difficile (clostridium difficile) was undergoing
the therapy to treat the disease.
