I posted this some years back and, for the heck thought I'd ask the current crowd her if any have experienced this: I have (unscientifically) noticed a strong positive correlation, over the years, between recovering from painful injuries (an impinged nerve in the back that for several weeks mimicked a herniated disc; bursitis on another occasion; and a knee injury on yet another occasion that required exploratory surgery), and significant dropoff in UC symptoms.
The UC symptoms didnt bounce right back after I recovered from the injuries. On a similar note, on some occasions when I had a bad upper respiratory infection, my UC activity dropped way off, but only while the infection was there- then it bounced back. (on other occasions, colds or stomach flew have worsened my Uc symptoms, so the variation probably reflects the way that different infections are associated with different bacterial imbalances).
Anyway, the correlations that I noticed were strong enough not to be coincidental, in my mind. I have never had the guts to try experimenting with some very sanitary, temporary self injury as a way to induce remission, but if nothing else, it makes me conskder related strategies to "divert" or "snap out" the immune system's vicious cycle in the case of IBD.
Anyone?
