Terrific visit with GI doc

This guy has always been there for me. He allowed me to change my meds to sulfasalazine and librax in 2010. Very open minded and the 'show pony' of the practice I was told after questioning him.

When I saw him today I talked more about my personality defects than I did about UC. I explained that after 2 years of no alcohol I fell back into the trap after house guests were here drinking around me constantly and people were driving me crazy in my life.

He looked at my bloodwork and said your liver can take anything you do not need to worry about that. Industrial strength liver apparently.

I let him talk long and received his advice willingly. I go overboard with everything. Overboard with sobriety overboard with drinking overboard with surfing overboard with making cash. He has a great memory and he said he always noticed I am just too intense and could benefit from some psyche counseling.

I agreed and await his recommendation for someone who is good. I am just not sure anyone can materially change me.

I should point out that I completely blew this person off for 2 years because I was hell-bent on proving I needed nobody and no medication. I was an island - lol ( we all get the joke nobody exists without needing others ).

I arrived at the appointment late due to work emergencies and was warned he had to go so it may be cancelled.

Yet this person spent considerable time counseling me about the dangers of my extreme personality tendencies. I was amazed at his memory and recall ability.

The fact that he cautioned me and spent 30 minutes talking to me completely restored my faith in humanity.

It is so refreshing to hear about an empathetic doctor who will actually take the time out to listen to you and give you counsel, other than pushing big pharma.

Sounds like he's a keeper.

That's great that you have found a doctor like that! I also am fortunate to have a great GI.

I've done counseling for several years. First it was for generalized anxiety. Then it morphed into dealing with grief and the passing of a loved one. Now it's support for dealing with my fun fun UC and all that goes with it. I was very resistant but am so glad that I went. A counselor is there for what you need them for. You identify what your issues are and they work and talk with you to find behaviors/thoughts/etc. that are good for you. As my needs have changed, the focus of my sessions has changed. Like UC treatment, what works for somebody else might not be good for you. I'm very glad I started going so I hope you find a good counselor and wish you good fortune on your journey!

I'm glad your doc is so great. As for the therapy, I think it's most important to approach it with an open mind and heart. Best of luck.

Thanks everyone. Now that I am not trying to be superman I feel more love for my fellow man / woman.

I was BLOWN away today when a beautiful blonde girl I used to work with all hours of the night purchased VSL#3 and sent it to my home when she learned aetna was not paying.

I can certainly afford it myself.

But the fact that she wanted to do this and without asking for my consent humbled me and I really felt the love.

It was so nice.
