Remicade Reaction

I was just in the hospital for my 5th remicade infusion. In this infusion, my GI increased my dosage to 10mg from 5mg, as I wasn't responding to the early doses. Same as before, I was premedicated with benadryl and solumedryl. about 20 minutes into the infusion, hives starting to break out in my chest, stomach, and arm, and I felt some tightness in my chest. After checking with the doctor, the nursed stopped the infusion. Does this mean I have to stop remicade? Should I ask the doctor to reduce to the normal dosage? (I didn't have any allergic reaction to 5mg). So lost right now..

I used to break out in hives too but I never had tightness in my chest. Before they started they would load me up with IV benadryl and that helped. I stopped the Remicade because it didn't work for me, not because of the hives so it doesn't necessarily mean you will have to stop. They are going to monitor you very closely now and see what happens.

Last time they thought I was reacting to Remicade it scared the nurse, so the next infusion she slowed it down to where it took 6 hours to get done!! Argh.
