If this is the first time off the Predisone I wouldn't go off it if I was you right at this present moment. You may feel that your symptoms have gone away or that you are in remission. But in a couple or few months time, inflammation will reoccur once again. I thought I recovered several times but it wasn't until six years later when I still hadn't recovered at all from the drugs that I was given that I decided to go down a different route. UC is always going to be there with the drugs that these supposed specialists give you. If they are such specialists why don't they put you on a diet and tell you what natural remedies and drugs to take to repair the inner-linnings of your stomach and colon? The drugs just stop inflammation but they don't repair anything. That's what the specialists don't tell you. "Have some drugs, you'll feel better." If you want to actually repair your inner-lining of your stomach or colon I would suggest keeping on a low dosage of Predisone (5-10mg) This will also help with natural drugs and won't give you side effects of a swollen face, back and neck.
To help with the repair of the inner-lining of your stomach or colon I would suggest these:
L'glutamine
Krill Oil
Zinc
Flaxseed Oil
L'glutamine:
Take half a teaspoon 20-30mins before breakfast with warm water just in a medicine measuring cup. Now this will heal cells in your body. It's also great for brain function and also will give you lots of energy. Those with UC that lose a lot of blood and have very low white cell count feel very drained and tired and have no energy, this, after a couple of weeks will make you feel way better. There a couple of L'glutamine products out there like an all natural one, if you can't get an all natural (some chemists don't have it) just get the one made by Musashi. I know they make protein and stuff for bodybuilding but I feel that the natural one or the Musashi one does the same. I've had both, they taste the same, they have the same ingredients and they do the same thing: Repair cells and make you feel a lot better.
Krill Oil and Flaxseed Oil
Take them in tablet form or liquid form (liquid you get more bang for your buck) either way these are a great anti-inflammatory (They have omega 3 and 6 fatty acids which are a great anti-inflammatory). Take them after breakfast and dinner along with the ZINC.
Do this with a little help from our not too favored friend Predisone and proper diet, and you'll be on your way to a full recovery.
The diet isn't a harsh diet. There are some changes that you should do. Remember, UC is like an open wound. Would you pour pepper on an opened wound? No! So don't eat it. Same goes with salt. Anything acidic: Oranges, tomato and so forth. No sugar. No milk or cheese. But you can swap it for soy products. No soft drinks or coffee. Tea is fine. You can still eat white and red meats (lean). No take away! Chinese, Indian, Pizza, McDonalds. All that crap that has preservatives.
