Hey...I have been reading a lot about
how metamucil has been helping people loads with urgency and bawl movement frequencies. i decided ill give it a go today but read that you should start with a low dose and go up as needed. the metamucil dose is 2-6 pills three times a day so my question is what does a low dose mean? how much and how many times a day should i start off with?

It would be highly advisable to start very low since too much can really put strain on your bowels. Anecdotally I had better luck with metamucil when I used a very low dose.
I have always mixed the powder with a glass of water, no pills. The spot that works for me is a half teaspoon.
You might try one pill to start and see if you notice a difference. When it works, BMs are formed and almost lubricated and you finish quickly with no pain or cramps. At the height of metamucil's effectiveness for me, I didn't even need to use toilet paper to wipe because its like the BM was coated in a layer of the fiber.

i tried the powder & it didn`t do much for me...just gave me an extra bm a day.
the metamucil capsules were actually just suggested to me by quincy - start at one per day, WITH a meal. i made the mistake of taking pure psyllium husk powder without meals at one point & it made me bleed.

I like the cinnamon wafers. I would start with 1 or 2 pills a few times a day. You can always scale back if it gives you a lot of bloating and gas.

Since you have the capsules...start with one capsule WITH one meal a day for at least 4 days. If you have no discomfort, add one capsule with another meal for another 4 days.
continue adding one capsule to each meal as you see fit to reach your goal. This might take months...but it's worth it...and base it on your comfort level..not bms. That will all level out as your gut gets used to the extra fibre.
The capsules are more convenient since you're able to carry them with you if you eat out.
I only eat 2 main meals a day...breakfast/brunch and supper. So...I now take 6 capsules with each meal. I've on occasion added another if I miscount, but I might just start to increase to 7 each meal.

I've been using psyllium powder for over 12 years (with occasional forays into pills and wafers).
I'll say this - I think powder into a glass of water is by far the way to go.
Basically, psyllium is going to form a non-digested gel in your body. I think the quantity and quality of that gel is maximized if you wash it down with a fair amount of water (as opposed to relying on a relatively small amount of psyllium in a capsule/wafer to *draw* water out of your body).
Just my two cents.

Anyone try the Metamucil Clear and Natural, Inulin product?
