Well I stopped the Azulfidine and started the colazal...Within 24 hrs my mucus and bm increased..To go back to Azulfidine at 6-8 tabs for me I really don't want to do. But if I allow things to progress it could get very ugly here. I am going on prednisone to see if I can cut this off at the pass w/o azulfidine. I know most here hate pred, well I hate Azulfidine just as much. I will start with 30mg and go from there. 40 plus years I been dealing with this crap and it's really worn me down...Was supposed to go to a fourth party at my brothers, ain't gonna happen..freaken UC...Hope you guys enjoy the fourth..

Poor thing. I am so sorry you're feeling down. I know how much it stinks to miss out on seeing friends and family and celebrating because of UC. Maybe you can get back on track very quickly with the right 5ASA? When I was in a moderate flare up a few years ago, I was able to pull out of it with just Asacol. have you ever tried Lialda or Asacol? I tried Colazal and it didn't work for me. I didn't try Azulfidine but if it worked for you, maybe things will improve quickly. Why do you hate Azulfidine? If you had side effects from it, you should definitely consider a newer mesalamine. I hate taking pills but currently I only take 2 Lialda and a half a 6mp, not too bad. There was a time when I was taking almost 20 pills a day, including 12 Asacol 400mg... I don't hate pred but I did hate the way I looked while on it. I was so fat faced and flabby. I guess it is a necessary evil sometimes.

8 tabs of azulfidine hurts my stomach and gives me nausea. I was going to try Lialda till I found out 90 tabs would cost me about $700. That got me nausea too :-)...So here I sit, with a 30 day supply of colazal which didn't work and about 100 tabs of azulfidine which if I take the amount needed to show improvement I feel like crap..I am hoping the prednisone gives me a jump start and maybe I can take a reduced rate of azulifidine. I at one time tried asacol, and pentasa...Neither worked as well as azulfidine. Strange as the medicinal part in all these drugs is mesalamine. It's really strange to me. If I am bleeding real good Cortenema works very well for me. Yet, cortenema does not reduce the mucus. Go figure, I can't. My mom has Chrons, she takes prednisone, bada bing remission 2 - 3 weeks. She stays on 4 tabs of azulfidine. I do too till a flare starts.

Once in a blue moon, ok more then once, when I'm feeling ok I go to a local casino. I go to the bathroom no more then once when I'm there...I'm thinking it's all the smoke I am breathing in. I'm getting a nicotine blitz...

I've ordered Lialda generic from Canada for way cheaper than you can get it here. There is no generic here so you have to pay for the brand price. I got 3 months of generic mesalamine 1200mg from India recently for under $200. If I were you, I would look into doing this. :)
