I have a question for those that have been on or tried the different versions of oral mesalamine. Did one work better or worse than others? I've been on the max dosage of Asacol (now Asacol HD) for 3 yrs. My latest colonoscopy showed that I went from having mild to moderate disease in the distal and transverse sections to now severe in both. The left side and rectum showed moderate disease. I take a nightly mesalamine enema, which does provide improvement in my symptoms. I'm now on a 8 week course of Uceris and that is helping with form and eliminating any blood. But, I've never seen any improvement from the Asacol since day 1 and I'm considering making a change. Would appreciate hearing others input. Thanks.

I was on Asacol when I was diagnosed. I used it for quite a while with great success. Eventually I had another flare up while taking Asacol. I couldn't get it under control with 5ASAs and had to start prednisone. I don't think any of this was due to Asacol but more due to the fact that my UC no longer responded as well to 5ASAs. Eventually I started 6mp and switched to Lialda. Lialda has been much more convenient becuase it's 1200mg. I definitely recommend it. I have seen people here who do better on one than the other, in my case, I did terribly on Colazal.

Has your colon pH level been tested? In recent yrs researchers found out that Asacol does not dissolve properly if a patient's colon pH level is under 7. / Old Hat (32 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
