I'm trying to find out peoples weight and dosage of 6mp

I'm a 52 year old male and my normal weight was 200 pounds. I went into a bad flare and my weight dropped to 167 pounds. My doctor put me on 125mg of 6MP I did well and went back up to 190 pounds.

To make a long story short, I started to flare again a couple of months after i got back to 190 pounds. I asked my doctor if we should increase it to 150mg? My levels were checked and my liver levels were in the normal range.

My doctor decided to put me on Allopurinol and decrease me to 50mg of 6MP. This has been a disaster. Nothing but bloody diarrhea.  I'm asking my doctor to put me back on the 6MPalone. I don't think at 190 pounds 150mg is too much. My liver levels have never been high.

Just trying to get some opinions,

I am 125 and I take 25mg. I was taking 50 & 75mg for a while but i had elevated liver enzymes. I am surprised you're having such bad luck with allopurinol, I was able to get into remission with 6mp + allopurinol. It allowed me to get into the correct range for the medication while taking a low dose and not having any effects on my liver. I think you should be okay to increase the dose as long as your blood is checked often and your dr okays it.

This is probably not helpful, as my daughter was about 125lbs, and she never went about 50 mgs. 6mp never stood alone and gave her remission either. After the big Pred. ween, her condition deteriorated and Remicade is what brought relief.

I was on 6mp and I was 84 lbs when I started at 50 mg.

It was too high and my liver enzymes were affected. I dropped to 25 mg but that wasn't affective for treating my symptoms at all.

If your blood work is good at 125 mg, I see no problem with you trying 150 mg, especially if it helps your symptoms. The worse that could happen is that you have to drop down again if you have problems at 150 mg. Obviously, you will need to find another medicine that will help you.

The worst that could happen is that you have to drop down again.. . That is so not true. I was hospitalized for 3 weeks because the 6mp really messed up my liver. Had to have my gall bladder removed. I know everyone is different but I will never take it again or recommend anyone use it

The guideline for 6MP is 1.5 mg/kg. You're about 90 kg now so the suggested dose would be 135 mg. If your liver is OK it seems like 150 mg should be fine. Not sure how it works when you add allopurinol though.

Thanks for the info. When I talk to my doctor Monday I have a little more knowledge. I am going off the Allopurinol. This has only made me worse. One thing I don't like is the doctors can't tell you how much this is going to boost your 6MP. It's a guessing game.  Never again. This also made my joints very sore and stiff. Anyone thinking of taking this beware.

With allopurinol you're supposed to drastically reduce the dose of 6mp. I was on too high of a dose and it caused my wbc to drop down to nearly nothing. I would think your decrease to 50mg would be accurate. Is he doing the prometheus testing to see whether you're in the therapeutic range?

I am doing better on this combo than anything else I've tried.
