Babeinthewoods,
Bill Clinton
recently started incorporating salmon and eggs because he was getting frail on the vegan diet. It seems very clear to me that something wasn't working out. By adopting vegan diets, people run into b12, zinc, cholesterol, omega-3 deficiencies, among many other problems. My guess is that he was losing muscle mass.
By the way, Clinton got his initial dietary advice from Dr.Esselstyn, an advocate of the China study. The China study (what Clinton's diet was based on) was
taken apart so beautifully that it prompted a response from the author.
The "world class" researchers you are alluding to are part of Esselstyn's circle - T Colin Campbell (China Study author), Neal Barnard, John McDougall and Joel Fuhrman. Some of these guys have affiliations with PETA, and they get paid to push out vegan propaganda. Whole foods seems to be following their lead and endorsing books written by these authors. Also notice the Engine-2 diet cereal brands? That's from Dr.Esselstyn's son. They clearly have a financial stake in the vegan diet.
I adopted a vegan diet last year after spending good money on their books. The end result was an adrenal insufficiency diagnosis. My adrenal glands shut down and I produced
zero cortisol. My blood glucose and hemoglobin A1c levels got me close to the prediabetic range. Much to my surprise, I learned my problem was actually fairly common among vegans. You'll find story after story of the same thing happening with carb heavy diets. It isn't unheard of to develop complications like adrenal fatigue or diabetes from vegan diets.
I pointed out the risks of a vegan diet in my other posts, but there are various cohorts that have been studied that show the risks of vegan diets. From bone problems to brain development issues, vegan diets are very detrimental in the long run.
Dr.Peter Attia, founder of NuSi summed up why Clinton saw improvement:
Pick the 2 diets at the furthest end of the spectrum, say, Atkins and Ornish. Notwithstanding the work of Christopher Gardner in JAMA in 2007, what do they have in common? Amazingly, they have more in common that most people realize! Both discourage sucrose, HFCS, and flour! Is it possible that much of the benefits Mr. Clinton has experience have to do with the removal of these agents rather than the removal of something else? When one switches from burgers and fries to tofu and salad, there a LOT of changes going on! To say it was the meat and dairy is not accurate. It COULD BE, though I don’t think so, but we haven’t proved it.Post Edited (StealthGuardian) : 11/24/2013 9:30:12 AM (GMT-7)
