For me, effectively dealing with the UC, and doing what needed to be done to gain lean mass were usually in conflict with each other. All other things being equal, the extra work and extra calories always eventually made the UC relapse from whatever semblance of remission I had established. I just changed my game plan, went strict with the SCD, and adjusted my workouts to where they have minimal impact on the UC. I've found it relatively easy to stay +/- 12% BF, and at 6'3/210 lbs, I'm pretty satisfied with my appearance.
