C diff back or never went away?

Found out I had c diff a month ago was on vancomycin for two weeks 125mg 4x day. Diarrhea got better in two days but my poop has been once a day but it's also soft, not regular for me harder poop. I have been feeling crampy on and off and just had some D. I really hope it's not c diff but afraid it is. I am going to call GI tomorrow. This sucks so bad. My daughter is still in the NICU, everyone is on precautions and they were about to be lifted on Monday. Grrrrrrrr

Beth, thank you for the update. I have been thinking about you and your family and I hope things improve for you. It sounds like you're doing a lot better as far as your UC goes. Did your GI say he will retest you for c diff? Seems like some cases are very persistent. There is really no other way to know you're better if you're still not feeling 100%.

NSSG, thank you for thinking of us. Fiona is 3.7 lbs and finally off the breathing tube and onto CPAP. GI says he won't retest me and NICU says no retest either. I think they are going by symptoms.

Glad to hear that Fiona is gaining. From many previous posts here on return of C.diff I'd say doc should retest you to be on the safe side. But soft stool alone could be the result of all the abx you've been given since Jan. It takes a while for "good" gut flora to repopulate after abx treatment, even w/o the complication of C.diff., and that will affect stool consistency. Here's hoping you continue to feel better and can get off abx for years!!!!! Definitely update us when you're able; we're thinking of you. (()) / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

That dose of vanco didnt help my c.diff... I got two more weeks of vanco at double dose and still no relief.
My doc said no more vanco so I used Culturelle and S. Boulardi (florastor) and that seemed to finish it off.

It doesnt necessarily sound like you have c.diff back/again for sure. But thats weird they wont retest you.

The one thing that went away that I knew my c.diff was gone, was that SMELL... c.diff has such a pungent strange gross smell to your poops!

Oh wow....I hope the vanco does its thing! I'd insist on a retest, actually.

Are you able to repopulate your git with probiotics? That might help.

I agree with OH that some of the stool consistency could be from all the physical and extreme emotional distress you've endured.

Good to hear Fiona is doing better...best to have precautions in place until you're sure about the c.diff.
