Well, it's been up and down for me for the past couple months.
I stuck to an SCD diet for three months with little to no difference than a regular diet. I've been taking generic azathioprine and it did give me some improvement (formed, couple times a day but with a ton of blood). However, I've been super sick while on this medication. I've had strep throat, a cold and the flu pretty much one after another.
Then since last week I started to have D multiple times per day and it just got worse and worse, going 10+ times per day... so I called my GI. I had a stool test done and.... I have c.diff! Fun! I've read all about
it on here so I'm terrified that this will take ages to get over. I keep washing my hands and cleaning everything like mad. I've been on the antibiotics for 4 days now and have not noticed any improvement. Yesterday was the first day I have ever called in sick to work... I went to work even when I felt at my worst during my flare but yesterday I just couldn't do it.
In addition to the c.diff, I have had some med changes. Since I am having a lot of bleeding despite being on AZA my GI has suggested that I try increasing my dose from 100mg to 125mg. I've also decided to try the brand name imuran rather than AZA. I know it may not make much of a difference but I do know people who do better on brand name meds rather than generics for whatever reason. Figured it would at least be worth a shot. I also changed from Mezavant to pentasa because I realized that Mezavant wasn't dissolving. Since both of these changes I have noticed a decrease in blood... but I guess I won't know for sure how much these changes help until the c.diff is treated.
Anyway, my GI also told me that if these changes do not put me into remission than I should consider biologics. However, I know that on biologics you still have to take imuran. But the thing is I have been so sick while on this aza that I can't imagine adding another immunosuppressing medication onto my current meds. At this point I'm considering getting surgery instead if the imuran, pentasa and salofalk enema combo doesn't work. I know lots of people seem to not want to get surgery no matter what... but I am just so tired of being sick all the time.
