If you get a flare while lowering salofalk from 3 g to 2 g is it possible to have really big problems to get back in remission or it is ussualy just needed to go back to 3 g.
Also I am thankful to any other advice because I didnt even started lowering dossage of because I have heard here that if you go back to flare you can really have big problems to go back in remission

Are you also on rectal Salofalk or other?
The Salofalk oral is in 500mg dosage pills. If you're lowering, go one pill down for a month. If all is good, then go down another pill.
But I think that 2g might be too low even for maintenance...especially if you have any involvement in the sigmoid or higher.

Are you in total remission now? It's really hard to answer your question because everyone is so different. Many can lower to a maintenance dose and stay in remission. Most can increase back up if you start to see remission slipping away. Some may decrease the dosage and never be able to retain remission again. Most of the troubles you see though are those who stop meds altogether and then can't get back on them. I'm assuming you are taking 500mg pills. If you are in total remission I wouldn't be afraid to cut back to 2500mgs and see what happens. If that works you can cut back further to the 2grams. I wouldn't ever go lower than that, even if you have been in total remission for 25 years. I've been taking 2 grams of Pentasa all this year and haven't gotten worse, but I'm not in total remission either.

I have forgot to tell you but I would be in remmision even more but was taking antibiotics for tooth and had bad diarhea just for two pills of if it. Also before while I was still on medrol I have lowered the salofalk from 4g to 3 g and had diarhea again . Some month later i have lowered from 4 g to 3 g without any problem.

See, here's the problem with what you're doing....you have pancolitis and you're not on rectal meds and you want to lower your meds.
I don't get it.
Ask for rectal meds and use them. Once you get on maintenance rectal, then consider to lower the oral meds.
Basically, the oral meds don't deal with the rectum....

When you flare, what are your first symptoms that YOU accept as a flare?

I was even thinking of next.
Since I am drinking now 1 g every 8 hrs to go slowly to 12hrs not sure what do you thin about
that.
But my GI told me that I am doing great and he thinks that I can go easy to 2g per day but I am a bit affraid
mostly because what gary have said.

You can split the total dosage twice a day. Drinking? do you mean taking?
So you're doing great....3g daily isn't a huge dosage.
You never answered my question about
YOUR symptoms that you believe are a flare.

Yes i meant taking. I had a first flare in february went To GI for colonoscopy. He told me that I have severe pancolitis. I started taking 32 mg of medrol and 4 g of salofalk and get better in 2 or 3 days ( from 8 bloody bm per day to 1 or 2 without blood. Then some 6 or seven weeks ago took antibioitics for tooth and got diarhea because of them ( the name of antibiotics are klavocin ) 1 in 10 people got diarhea when taking them. I had the problem with antibiotics also counted as flare.

The fact is that you were just diagnosed in Feb with severe pancolitis....were you actually diagnosed with ulcerative colitis?

I second the suggestion of rectal meds.
Personally, I think it's too early for you to decrease the meds just yet. I would give it a few more months before lowering, but that's just my opinion. I didn't even think about
decreasing until I’d been in remission for nearly a year.

You are fortunate indeed if you were just diagnosed with severe pancolitis in February and now you are in symptomatic remission. If the meds aren't causing you any problems or financial difficulties then you are probably best to continue at your current dosage for a while and then maybe think about
cutting back later on. Frankly, I think most of us are amazed that you are doing so well based on what you have said, but I guess that's a good thing. What country are you in?
