Hi, my name is Alex and I'm new to Healing Well. I'm 18 years old and I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis In December 2013. I saw a pediatric GI for a couple of months and she simply put me on prednisone and Pentasa, while the prednisone worked quite well,I was on it for about
8 months, too long from what I have heard. After I turned 18, I was quickly referred to an adult GI and in the very first meeting he almost immediately determined I would most likely have to go on Humira. The only reason I can think of that he may have came to that conclusion so quickly was I had difficulty tapering my corticosteroids. My adult GI put me on Lialda, 2-1.2G tablets once daily, and slowly tapered me off steroids over the next 5 months. However, soon after starting Lialda, my insurance decided to no longer cover Lialda so I was switched to Delzicol, 2-400mg capsules 3x daily, and have been on that ever since. about
a month ago I started Humira, still being inflamed after being off steroids. My first injection went alright, however after my second injection, two weeks later, I started feeling Flu-like. I have been bedridden up until two days ago when I went to the ER, as I had been getting progressively worse.
I was just wondering if anyone thinks my GI put me on Humira too fast and didn't exhaust other safer options, as Humira is a fairly risky drug.
Thanks everyone for your time and responses. :)
