Is it theoreticaly possible to recolonize colon?

I have read here that lot of you got UC after huge amounts of antibiotics. I have seen this biofilm theory.
Is it possible that after huge doses of antibiotics the rebuilding of gut flora went wrong and our body is attacking it because of it. If we destroy our colon flora and rebuild like newborn child ( because children are born without bacterias in colon ) Is it possible to maybe cure UC?

I'd have to say that yes, theoretically it would be possible. But, you have to have a sense of reality in recognizing that there are a lot of theories that are wrong. They have a lot of theories for any number of things and after further studies they might find that one theory was right and the other ten or more theories were wrong.

Ask all the fecal transplant people. I gave it a shot with 1st sons stool, and wifes stool.

I agree with gary. Theoretically it sounds plausible but its a risk I am not willing to take (unless I was literally on the verge of surgery). I've had fecal transplant treatment and its seems to have at least 'cured' my UC or put it on a long term remission, but I have much worse IBS now because of it (which ironically is having a greater emotional toll on me than the UC ever did). But from my experience, I believe the treatment probably altered my colonic make up substantially (which to this point has now last almost 2 years) which would satisfy the theory posited by the OP.

The other point to add is that we don't fully understand what a 'healthy' colonic microbiota is (ie. what composition of the billions of different species and subspecies of bacteria make a colon disease free). So by nuclear bombing your colon and re-populating it with what we think is correct may not necessarily work out.

A lot of bad bacteria colonize, breed, and spread much quicker than the good ones. It could be a recipe for disaster... unless the right bacteria (we don't know them all that well) take a foot hold, survive, and the bad ones don't take over. Even if you get the magical right ratio, uc itself can change that gut flora over time, as it did before. So the change in gut flora could be more of a symptom rather than a cause...

As you can see this is quite complex, here are papers on early onset crohns and if I find it UC.

You will see that in crohns there is dysbiosis early on,while if the UC paper is correct not dysbiotic.

You also have to remember what they find in the stool is not the same as what they find in mucosal associated

bacteria.

I also believe that at least in UC the immune system is causing much dysbiosis.

There is also biofilms and colonization resistance to worry about,so not a easy thing.

If I understand correctly, everyone has a different microbial makeup in their colons so if a UC'r wiped out their dysbiosis completely and started anew it would be a real question mark as to how to proceed in repopulating the gut. It is also extremely possible that the immune system is highly entangled in the whole process as in one person's immune system recognizes the makeup of the microbia in that person's colon and might even attack if that makeup is different than it was supposed to be (this could actually be the root cause of UC itself). In other words, theoretically, if your immune system has grown to recognize the microbial makeup that you are supposed to have, then if you wiped it out and started all over again, you would theoretically have to make sure you repopulated the gut with the very same microbial makeup that your immune system recognizes or it would attack again and you would be right back in a similar boat.
