Very pregnant, possibly starting to flare

Congrats on your upcoming bundle of joy and hopefully it's not a flare coming on. The first thing I would do is work on finding that new GI doctor and right away so you can get checked out. My sister flared while pregnant and it came on fast and hard.

You need to find a GI, stat. A flare can cause you to deliver early - my son was born three weeks early (due to what I think was a very mild, undiagnosed UC flare) and while he was fine, in terms of lung development, etc., he ended up being readmitted to the hospital when he was a few days old for phototherapy because of jaundice. He just couldn't figure out the whole eating thing. At 33 weeks, your baby will likely be fine, in the long run, but will be looking at time in the NICU for sure.

I'd call around, explain the situation, and see if anyone will see you on an emergency basis. If I were you, I'd also plan to get a Remi infusion when you're in the hospital after delivery. The last thing you want (if you manage to make it to delivery w/o flaring) is to be in a flare with a newborn - I've BTDT and it sort of ruins the newborn experience. At the very least, you need to get on some other sort of meds RIGHT NOW, if you're not willing to take Remicade. I personally wouldn't have gone off it in the first place.

First thing is don't panic and try not to stress. You are right it may just be piles which are v common at pregnancy. And tbh it does not sound like u r having other uc symptoms like gas, bloating, loose stools, pain etc. a fever does not necessarily mean it's a flare up.

However you should get checked out ASAP. If it's the onset of a flare then you may be able to start a course of steroids which could control it or rectal meds (if you're allowed in the third trimester).

I never really understood that mentality. Probably every single one of us carries some kind of cancer gene or something else. I don't think there are any genetically perfect humans out there anywhere. Even if you pass on a predisposition gene to autoimmune disease doesn't mean that the offspring will ever come down with it. With this kind of thinking we should just rule that no one can have any children and then we wouldn't have to worry about it anymore.

Agree with above 2 posts. Dreadsteel, you are not only being harsh to an pregnant women and your opinion is not helping anyone. I guess your facts are also wrong because the probability is not huge it is just 15%if one parent has ibd. I'm the only one in my family has uc but My mom's cousin had bowl cancer and his niece had rheumatoid arthritis. In over 50 people, only three of us has autoimmune disease. If we have the genetics then all our extened family also has the possibility. Do I have the rights to ask them not to have kids?
