Apologize if this has been shared before...

Thought of sharing as this info might be helpful to people who dislike colonoscopy.

"Stool Fecal Calprotectin" test has been approved for GI's to prescribe. I've been asking DD's GI about this test from the very beginning but wasn't approved until now.

GI prescribed this new test for next follow up.
Benefits over colonoscopy is - this is non invasive, no prep and can predict flare before 3 months.

my case shows that this test is completely unreliable and that's what the doc has told me. Whenever i was in complete remission and c-scope showed Mayo 0, my calprotectin numbers were through the roof, the doc said it couldn't be possible and he didn't believe in that test

It always has been and always will be an unreliable test.

I think it's actually one of the ones that is correct. My GI does that test as a matter of course. My calprotectin is always correct in predicting my flares and confirming I am in one. I don't always show inflammation in my CRP test in blood.

It is accurate just don't take your measurement on a Single test result, along with it ESR,CRP & stool check for pus cell/RBC..etc should be monitored to collectively form an opinion regarding inflammation.

If you can maintain a fecal calprotectin below 200mg/kg then you have achieved remission, generally you don't want calprotectin to be climbing up.

it's kinda like a lot of gauges and wives - they may not be dead on accurate or right according to a certain standard, but once you figure out the variables, they can still be a valuable tool -
