I was on simponi and 6mp and I did ok. Unfortunately simponi didn't get my flare up under control but it might be a great option for you. I think the chance of developing cancer is actually quite low but it is a concern for anyone on these medications. You should do some research and see if you're comfortable with the risks, if not, you can say that you would like to continue with your current treatment or try something else. I feel like with this illness, if you don't want to risk medication side effects, surgery is probably the best option. Active inflammation can also cause an increased likelihood for colon cancer so that is something to consider. What are the options really? 5ASAs, immunesupressants, steroids (not a longterm solution), biologics, surgery, alternative therapies? There is not that much the GI can offer you. How about a course of Uceris? That doesn't have the side effects of pred but it could help get you back to where you need to be. The problem is that when you stop it, you could end up in the same boat you're in now. You may not though...
