Blood results

Ok so I got my blood results today and they are fab! CRP is at 1 and the azathioprine level is now at 440 which is at a very good level in my blood to now be at a good therapeutic level.

I am on 15mg pred and will be reducing to 10mg on Monday.

So why if the inflammation is low and and all other aspects of my blood are fine am I getting this awful irritation right whee my colitis is on my left side. It's mild but still painful and irritating and lasts all day. So if it's not inflammation could it be a side effect of pred or something? And if I was getting pancreatitis or something then that would be a much worse pain and my bloods would pick up on something right??

I am so pleased with my progress and just need to get to the bottom of this pain!

CRP is not always an accurate way of measuring inflammation. My GI never even checks mine. I asked my family doc to check it once.

My gi docs have said pred can disguise a diseased colon. You could still have inflammation even though your blood numbers are okay. And to me, it sounds like you do.

I think you're still healing... It takes time to get these flare ups under control. If you're in a lot of pain, you need to be seen. The reality is that you can have nothing showing as elevated and still flare up. I've had entire flare ups where I never had any sign of inflammation in my blood.

My CRP went from 39 to under 1 in a few weeks so it did show in my blood work this time so there is some improvement there. But there have been times when I haven't shown anything in my blood but I have been flaring mildly.
