Apriso

I was forced to change to Apriso from Asacol by my Insurance Co. Since the change, my symptoms, though mild, are starting crop up. Today, I have severe lower abdominal pain (no diarrhea). I take 4 Apriso a day. Should I take more Apriso for a few days until this little flare gets under control?

Sorry your insurance company made you switch. I would call your GI to discuss. And as per my usual comments, you should be on rectal meds.

When I was on Asacol HD I tried switching 2 different times to Apriso and would be ok for a few weeks and then I flared. The first time it happened I switched back to Asacol, did a course of Uceris and was fine. I am still trying to get out of the flare from the 2nd time (started June 2014). Everything has been back to normal for me for almost a month now except that I still see blood every few days. Last week I switched to generic Colazal so hoping this will do the trick.

Anyway -- I am not sure why Apriso didn't work for me, but I think it might have something to do with only taking it once a day. Who knows? If you are feeling like you are starting to flare you should talk to your dr. How long have you been on the Apriso?

Bum: How much Asacol were you taking? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but more than likely the Apriso you are taking isn't anywhere near the equivilant of the Asacol you were taking. Increasing the dosage might help you in the short term but as soon as you gut back you will be right back to where you are now. It sucks that insurance companies do this to people. Is there a chance your GI can let them know that this switch is not working and switch back?
