One week of Fecal transplants= No symptoms.

Read the book "Fecal Transplant Guidbook" by a woman named Sky Curtis. Plus all of Borodys work. Decided to do it. Have a healthy doner. I started in a flare-up. 10-15 bms, blood, mucus. One week later no blood, 2-3 bms a day. Still taking 1600 mgs of Asacol just as insurance. I can literally feel it working. Eating whatever I want. So happy. I know it's gross but I encourage anyone who is suffering from this disease to try this. I will be keeping all of you posted on progress. Really there's not much room for progress, but the book says to keep doing them.

I do think the donor, again, makes or breaks the transplants, since a large percentage of folks do have pathogenic bacteria residing in their system (by virtue of the standardized diet we all eat). The caveat is finding a donor that eats the right way. I live in a fairly metropolitan society, so this is almost impossible... they are out there though!

I also second the suggestion to feed the microbiome. I think resistant starches are perfect for keeping the microbiome healthy. A quick google search will give you all the scientific benefits.

babies in diapers are not suitable donors. their microbiome is not fully developed. you need an older donor.

i'll take not fully up to snuff baby poop over no poop any day -

I would disagree with that, I know plenty of people without digestive issues who go that often.

Burli - Going by Sharron's thread, those who have had success have not relapsed though I will have to check with her. Hurst's method appears to be foolproof for the most part, since he addresses the nutritional aspect of it. Briggs also has an awesome protocol that I would look into. Also, the borody case reports showed no relapse (or colitis pathology ) in patients after the 13 year mark - I believe he posted the case history of 6 people. That's as good as gone IMO.

Gary - I wasn't attacking you. I find it comical that you can supposedly predict what will happen to other people. Sometimes, colitis pathology does resolve through FMT. I would assume most colitis cases are bacterial. Fear holds a man prisoner and hope sets him free.

I agree that the donor makes or breaks it. I had a fellow user on here (michael) help me and gave me a bunch of guidelines. I couldnt get any if my docs to test my donor's stool. Im pretty sure i gave myself c diff on accident (my donor was a labor and delivery nurse). So i think the therapy has potential but the testing is crucial. I would never risk it again after my experience. I do think you found great poop so stick with that. I would 1000% do maintence transplants forever.

I think it's encouraging that fmt works for some with uc. Not sure we know the sucess rates for certain (can vary study-to-study) but gives another treatment to try for those who wish to but it isn't without risk. I think there's a lot of variables, testing of stool beforehand, seems essential, donor selection as well. It's unregulated, not all organisms contained in the stool are known. Just things to keep in mind, for those wishing to try it.

The long-term no medications after fmt bit I find pretty fishy/sketchy, show me a study where thousands were medication-free after fmt; not just a few cases. It seems irresponsible to tell people to go off their uc medications after fmt based on a few isolated cases, continue your prescribed medications.

You are asking for something that is not possible in the current medical realm. The kind of study you want would never take off, much less get any semblance of funding. I think the last "large scale" study, despite the faulty construction and mechanics (weekly transplantations, questionable donors, lack of other anti-inflammatories), used around 80 people and 1/3 entered remission after prolonged use.

Borody has certainly done thousands of FMT's, but only managed to put out one paper. That was over a decade ago. It was a dissertation using six (only six) hand picked cases. That in itself raises concern.

I think Borody started out with treating c. diff and then saw application with IBD. Granted we will never know the actual success rates without hacking into his hard drive, but 6 cases where severe pathology (some necessitating surgery) is not just eliminated, but also showing no prior colitis (scarring, hindered mucosa) should be enough to give people hope. I really do think fear holds people prisoner on these forums. I know this kind of fear limited my perspective when I subscribed to the traditional medical model of disease treatment a few years ago.
