Diet modifications have done nothing for my uc.
Having untreated uc inflammation greatly increases ones colorectal cancer risks, and that is far more dangerous than any of the uc medications.
The most concerning side effect of immunosuppressive medications (imuran, 6mp, aza) is lymphoma which has odds of 4 in 10,000 (or 0.04 percent) compared to 2 in 10,000 ( or 0.02 percent) for the general population. Biologics (humira, remicade, simponi) are taken with immunosuppressive medications bumping up the odds slightly more 6 in 10,000 (or 0.06 percent). To put that risk into perspective, the odds of death via heart-related troubles is 1 in 5, death in a car crash 1 in 133, so we're talking about
really small odds for uc medications. And 60 percent of those who get lymphoma are treated and it goes into remission. The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America is the source for these statistics:
