Flares and Migraines

I have been in remission for about 2 years now (off all meds!) with occasional mild flares that never last more than a week. Unfortunately, my disease is back with a bang and my GI is going to put me back on all the nasty meds again I have 10 years of experience with managing UC, but I've really been struggling with migraines this time. It's so debilitating and I can't do much- it's difficult to go about full-time work, part-time studying and family life (with a busy 2 yr old) when they hit! I feel like the migraines are more of a set back than the actual flare! Has anyone else experienced such severe migraines with their flares? Any advice for me, so much to do, so little time and these migraines are slowing me down!

What nasty meds are you talking about? You are the one millionth post from someone who was med free and now their UC is back with a bang. UC is a disease where you have to ALWAYS take mtnc meds to keep you from flaring because flares quite often get worse and worse and what worked before often doesn't work again or work as well. So, the best strategy is to be proactive by always taking meds and not reactive, waiting for flares to happen and then finding that your UC is back with a bang. Once colon damage is done it is very hard to reverse and sometimes the damage never heals. If you get nerve damage in the colon then you've got IBS, which basically never goes away because nerves usually don't ever heal. It is much safer to always take the safer meds, even when in remission, than to find that your UC has gotten out of control and then you really do have to take the nastier meds. Don't know much about headaches but I strongly urge you to take mtnc meds, even when in remission. It's also safer than having constantly lingering inflammation which can increase your risks of colon cancer.

Should have never taken you off the Pentasa. That was really stupid.
