Went to the ER today for the extreme rectal pain I was dealing with, I went for a catscan during the visit and she came back saying that I have Pancolitis, that the inflammation is all throughout the large intestine. What does this mean ? Do I no longer have ulcerative colitis anymore and my new diagnoses is Pancolitis? Or is Pancolitis temporary? What does this mean for my health having Pancolitis in comparison with just having colitis. What are the differences? So many questions I'm sorry, this has been a nightmare these passed few months.

Pancolitis literally means colitis of the entire colon. 'pan' refers to the extent, not type, of colitis, so your diagnosis hasn't changed: it's still ulcerative colitis. Pancolitis can range from mild to severe, like the more limited left-sided colitis. What it means for your health is hard to say. It depends on how severe the inflammation is, and how easy it is to get under control with medication. The Remicade will hopefully start working for you after one or two more infusions.

And just in case you're not sure what left-sided colitis is, it's colitis of the descending (i.e. the left side) colon. UC typically affects the rectum and descending colon, but in some cases it can spread throughout the whole colon.

I had pancolitis. As NCOT said, it just means your entire colon is effected. It's still ulcerative colitis. Unfortunately, it can be more difficult to treat when the entire colon is effected. Through successful treatment though, it could turn around.

Had the catscan many time, spinal taps, MRI's.

I am driving an hour each way to work for another 3 months until my house is constructed. Quite a gamble. I have to stay on top of eating clean.

Yesterday I took someone to lunch and I had 2 double patty 5-guys burgers with no cheese just veggies, I dont know where all that burger and fries went but I did not wake up overnight and have not gone since so fingers crossed. Limiting carbs is key here.

Right now your entire large intestine is inflamed, however, with proper treatment you can reach remission with no inflammation.

if you went form left sided UC to pancolitis UC while on Remicade, that is scary. I hope the Remicade gets a foothold and you get back to left, then procto, then none.
