Several years ago, I had ablation done. Haven't had a period since, until now. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis in March of this year, and have been struggling for control ever since. Done up to 60mg of prednisone, Luanda, hospitalized, and then on to humira and lialda. Saw the GI yesterday for bleeding and pain....in a severe flare again! We both agree that humira is just not working as hoped. Anyway, aside from the UC bleeding, now tonight, after only 40mg of prednisone, I started a period too. Hematocrit and hemoglobin came back ok yesterday. But now, I'm REALLY worried. Anyone else ever have this happen? I'm new to the forum, so any insight on previous discussions would be great too.

I don't have any advice, but I was just at my annual gyn appointment and my midwife asked me if I had a history of endometriosis. She said that she has a friend with CD and endo, which had spread to her colon on one side. They had to do some sort of surgery to treat it. Because I haven't had endo I didn't ask for more info. Might be worth looking into. I am sorry you feel so miserable.

Not sure either but I spot a lot now and never used to. Not sure if it's related to UC or not.. But will be following this post now!

Hi. Sorry you are having such a hard getting your colitis under control. I hope you and your GI find another line of treatment very soon

The re-starting of your periods may be unrelated to you current severe flare. I also had an ablation and after a few years with no period at all they suddenly came back. I do not think it coming back had anything to do with my colitis. I think the ablations just fail for some people. ( I had a small complication that involved a scarred over cervix, but that's another story!) .

On the positive side, there is a good chance though that your periods may be much lighter and less crampy then they were before your ablation. However on a negative note, I have noticed that having a period while flaring make both things more painful and messy and I sometimes notice a temporary increase of colitis symptoms during my periods.

Thanks everyone! It seems to be very light....nothing really, just another annoyance in that part of my body. Nothing like pre-ablation at all...just thinking it was so odd, flaring, restarting prednisone, and now this! I will be tracking it. The good news is the prednisone is already kicking in. No blood this morning yet. Entyvio is next. Keep you posted!
