I don't post here often. I have had uc since 2006 and been in remission since around 2012. I was on lialda 2 pills twice daily. Last year I started experiencing major joint and muscle pain with swelling. I had a positive ana blood test and started prednesone. That helped so my rheumy put me on plaquanil. That is no longer working so along with my gi's approval I have stopped lialada and planquanil and started sulfasalizne 2 pills 2 times a day. Anyone take this? It seems to be relieving the pain somewhat but I am very nauseous on it. Any one have any side effects from it? Thanks in advance

I take 6 pills a day, 3 in the morning and 3 in the evening. I felt a little nauseous in the beginning but I think my body has adjusted to it. If the nausea is too much then you could ask for a script for an anti-nausea med, they are pretty effective.

Are you taking the Sulfasalazine on an empty stomach?

The sulfa component of it does cause a variety of additional side effects in some. Whether it's temporary or ongoing, only time will tell. Sulfasalazine is supposed to be good for joint pain, so, I hope it helps yours.

I had been on Asacol for a long time but it started causing me problems. I switched to sulfasalazine (6 pills/day). It made me exhausted and nauseous; caused me to have some joint pain as well.

You can get a coated version that cuts down on nauseous feeling.
