Rectal discharge post surgery- What is average?

Day 6 post surgery #1 Ileoostomy with removal of colon, left rectum intact till surgery #2. I had daily rectal discharge including 3x on day 3. It has now been 3 days with no rectal discharge. Not that Im complaining just thought it would be daily. wondering if my fellow Ileo friends can chime in on what is their normal rectal discharge rate?

It's been almost 6 years since my surgery so I don't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure it was not every day that I had discharge. Everyone's body chemistry is different so I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Ps - you may get more answers over on the ostomy board. Only a few of us that had surgery still help out here on the UC board.

As your rectum heals it should decrease, the little part of your colon that was left in is in shock.

You could also be flaring in the rectum, if it is a QOL issue then you can get medication to treat it like canasa.

I would usually go in the AM. I can't remember exactly how often, I may have gone a few times a day. It wasn't a huge problem for me, like it is for some people. I've heard of people flaring so badly with proctitis between steps 1&2 that they were nearly as miserable as they were with UC. My surgeon said I could do an enema to get rid of the stuff and probably skip a day or two of going - i never did because it wasn't a huge concern for me,
