why is D so watery when we flare?

Hi, does anyone know the reason for this? Is it because the colon is unable to absorb water properly? I notice it is always worse in the morning after sleep and then reduces as the day goes on. Would the colon normally absorb more water in the night?!

Yes, a healthy digestive system moves slowly, and absorbs water from our food and drink. First, when our large intestine is inflamed it isn't nearly as efficient at extracting water from our waste. Second, when we're flaring badly, our digestive system moves everything through a lot quicker along. Essentially our bodies know something is irritating us, we want to purge/empty whatever it is from the system asap, so our mouth-to-anus transit time is greatly reduced. Combine these and we have watery diarrhea, and we can even pass partially digested food.

When you're flaring badly, no or reduced appetite. It's easy to associate the act of eating with discomfort and pain.
