VSL #3 without a GI diagnosis

Hi! I'm totally new to this site and this type of fourum. I have a fairly straight forward question and any feedback would be super helpful. I don't have anything specific GI wise going on but have had a serious amount of antibiotics due to Lyme disease, strep throat and a slew of other things. I know the "gut health" thing is in fashion now and want to work with my body to make mine better. Does anyone know if there is anything wrong with taking VSL #3 alone to get things in check? If it isn't recommended what would be a better course to take? Thanks to anyone out there who can help...:)

There are 2 types of VSL products, the regular VSL3 is OTC and the VSL-DS is the prescription strength which you need a script for.

The VSL-DS is the same active ingredients but it's just a larger dose, I think it is either 3-4 times as potent.

Good luck getting your insurance to cover it, they have been very difficult over the last few years with this stuff.

My GI recommends a combination of Florastor and Culturelle, it is a broader spectrum of probiotics and can be very effective with antibiotics.

Absolutely taking probiotics is a good thing. VSL 3 is but one of excellent probiotics. It's not in fashion...its a known fact.

Sad to hear of your diagnosis....has your doctor not given you the suggestion to take them?

Sure, try them. They're generally do no harm, and might help. Vsl can be ordered online without a prescription. There are also cheaper alternative probiotics available, if you get sticker-shock.
