Hey,

Thought we could write up some things people said or did that were annoying/funny...

Ill start by saying that the insensitive comments were not meant to be insensitive, just turns out they were. some of the people were likely trying to be empathetic or had nothing else to say.
I actually wrote this over a year ago when I was on a very hefty dose of medrol and right after i was discharged from the hospital (oral form of solumedrol) I was pretty sick then....anyways I found it in my email drafts so...

What dumb things happened to you? please share

Dumb stuff ppl said

1. Your such a drama queen/ stop being ridiculous
( I'm pretty sure they don't teach how to get bloody ulcers in Hollywood)
2. "Stop eating gluten my sisters cousins best friends neighbors uncle had a stomach ache and almost needed surgery and he cut out gluten and he was healed practically instantly,
I bet ur just allergic to gluten"( nope I'm pretty sure I'm not celiac I'm also pretty sure you should shut your mouth cuz you have no clue what you are saying )
3. "Are you on steroids? cuz your face is all puffy" ( well your lip is going to be puffy after I shove my fist in your face)
4. "It's not that bad" ( yes, since when have you had terrible abdominal pain and fatigue and 30+ daily excruciating bms.... Then be quiet)
5."how do you cope?" ( what else am I supposed to do)
6. "Wow! You look like hell" ( umm thank you?)
7. "Why did you gain so much weight?" ( take steroids for 5 months and come back to me)
8. "Stop sleeping all day/ ur lazy" ( when you lose as much blood as I do, come back to me and we will talk)
9. "Cmon come to the party it will be fun" ( I don't call being locked in a bathroom in someone else's house fun)
10. "Your lucky your hair is so thin it must be easy to do"( allright then I'm sure you will have no problem with me shaving off your hair)
11. "You really shouldn't eat that" ( and you really shouldn't tell me what to do)

Some really nice things ppl said
1. "I totally don't blame you" ( Thank you!!! Everyone else thinks I'm crazy for sleeping all day and not going out)
2. "What can you eat? I'd love to make you dinner" ( nuff said)
3." I didn't hear from you in awhile, just wanted to make sure your ok"
4. "I'm not asking for you to tell me what's going on I just want you to know I'm here if you want to talk" ( came from someone who knew I was in the hospital for several weeks but didn't know what was up)

The nice: When a friend asks " I want to make a homemade meal, can you have *this or that*" warms my heart knowing she was thinking of me.

The bad: while at a fundraiser for the MDA, an acquaintance, who was a nurse and knew I had UC btw, said "You're so skinny! Eat this spinach pecan quiche. It won't hurt you!"

The nice: anytime someone tells me that they're there anytime I need them. And they mean it. (Two friends of mine who are nurses are absolute saints.)

The funny: "Hey, you lost weight! You look great! What's your secret? I need to lose weight too!"

The bad: "You did NOT have an allergic reaction. That's your imagination. Also, anything you read on the internet is wrong." --my (former) GI doctor
