Which pain killers are ok to take for period pain?

So prior to being diagnosed I used to take Naprogesic which is an NSAID of course ... and that was the only thing that would relieve my period pain. Although now I know that NSAIDS aren't safe for people with UC and Panadol has never worked for me at all ... anyone know any pain killers that are non NSAIDS and safe? Preferably nothing too heavy duty & something over the counter. Even some natural remedies? I've heard prim rose oil works? Also I'm in Australia so I'm not sure if a lot of the drugs are called something else in the US...

I'm due in 2 days and soooo worried that I'm gonna be bloody flaring up & in even more pain from my period so pls help!!

We can safely take tylenol (acetaminophen) with Ulcerative Colitis. It's not a NASAID and therefore fine.

Thanks for that, although I think Tylenol is the same as paracetamol which is what's used in Panadol which doesn't really work well for me at all ... unless I'm mistaken

I used to get pretty bad period pain - paracetamol wouldn't touch it and I couldn't take NSAIDS without bleeding really badly, even if I was in remission. Panadeine Forte (Paracetamol 500mg + Codeine 30mg) was a lifesaver for me, not sure what it's called in the states. Also loved that a side effect was a reduction in intestinal motility, gave me relief when my periods were messing with my bowel.

Just saw that you're in Australia! Also parsley tea helped for me, just buy the dried herbs from the supermarket and put them in a diffuser.

I just take ibuprofen. It's one day a month, I'm not going to sweat it.

That said, disregard this if ibuprofen causes any noticeable symptoms for you, such as bleeding or stomach pain. It doesn't for me.

I'm having the same problem. I'm on day 3 of my period and my cycle stopped in January 2011. I forgot what it was like and I hate having it back again. Tylenol doesn't do anything for me so I'm just trying to change positions a lot. I notice if I stay in one place, the cramping starts to bother me. I haven't had gas this bad since I had c diff and I almost crapped my bed already.

I know there are period teas so I plan on picking something up. One of them has raspberry leaf but I don't know if that works for cramps.

Panadiene Forte sounds like the way to go ... thank you! I've heard of people using that for other things ... do I need a prescription for that? Parsely or raspberry tea also sounds good.. Did some reading and apparently prim rose oil capsules are really good for period pain in general

Just a quick update ... I have been using ‘Mersyndol’ which is a combination of coediene and paracetamol. It’s been working really well so far

I took some bentyl for period cramps recently and it really helped!

I take Aleve (an NSAID) sparingly for headaches still. It's never caused my UC to flare up and my GI okayed it for me. I probably take it twice a month on average. Tylenol does absolutely nothing for me and never has.

How'd you get the codeine for period cramps? What country do you live in? We could never get that here in the U.S.! Must be nice...I have to beg and grovel for pain meds when I'm in severe UC pain.
